Growing Your Export Business:
China, Korea & Taiwan

China, Korea and Taiwan are among Asia’s leading economies. As important destinations for U.S. exporters of goods and services, China, Korea and Taiwan are the U.S.’s 3rd, 7th and 10th largest trading partners, respectively. In 2007, U.S. and Maryland exports to these three markets were over $126 billion and $692 million, respectively.

TowsonGlobal, the Business Globalization Center, is Towson University's international incubator for early-stage companies. TowsonGlobal helps bridge the way for entrepreneurial enterprises to find success in the global economy. The Center accomplishes this by providing businesses with a wide range of support needed to flourish in today's competitive global environment, such as office facilities, business counseling, and workshops. TowsonGlobal’s mission is to help early-stage companies—both Maryland companies aspiring to sell their products/services abroad and foreign companies looking to market their products and services in the mid-Atlantic region—grow and learn how to compete in the global economy.

The US Export Assistance Center in Baltimore is part of a vast network of domestic and international offices, staffed by the US Department of Commerce. We assist Maryland firms in exporting by providing expert counseling and advice, information on markets abroad, international contacts and advocacy services. We combine these resources of the Commercial Service with the finance expertise of the Small Business Administration, and can provide information on all Federal programs designed to support international trade.

M&T Bank is the only bank with International Trade Finance Sales and Operations groups headquartered in Maryland, where M&T and its predecessor banks have financed exports, working capital, and investments in Latin America, Asia, Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa since 1970. M&T's trade financing teams offer financing and traditional tools such as letters of credit to enable local businesses to expand their sales and sourcing to new foreign markets. In recognition of M&T Bank's consistent volume of international transactions, in 2005 the US Department of Commerce conferred on M&T the prestigious "President's E Award" for export excellence. M&T plays an active leadership role in several local, state, and national organizations and programs to support Maryland companies in foreign markets and continues to be one of the principal banks who finance exports under programs of the Export-Import Bank of the US.
